Now that we are in the middle of summer and temperatures are quite high, our body asks for light, cold foods like ice cream.
So, we'll explain how to make a delicious marijuana ice cream, to cool off and enjoy the multiple medicinal and recreational benefits offered by our beloved plant.
Imagine it: combining ice cream with your favorite strain of cannabis. You'll be surprised how easy it is to make cannabis ice cream quietly at home one afternoon and then enjoy a great experience full of laughter and flavors with your friends.
INGREDIENTS AND NECESSARY TOOLS
First, let's break down all the ingredients and tools we will need to prepare our fantastic ice cream:
INGREDIENTS
- 5g of hashish or 10g of finely ground cannabis
- 500ml of heavy cream
- A pinch of salt
- 400g of banana
- 75g of sugar or alternative sweetener
- 3 tablespoons of rum
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 5 tablespoons of honey
Of course, you can substitute any of the above ingredients with a vegan equivalent or simply add others to fully satisfy your palate: nuts, raisins, cookies, etc.
TOOLS
For decarboxylation:
- A large oven tray
- Baking/parchment paper
- Spatula or stirrer
For the ice cream:
- Two large saucepans
- Blender
- A large bowl
- A lidded freezer container
FIRST PREPARATORY STEP: DECARBOXYLATION
Decarboxylation involves heating the cannabis until the cannabinoid acids convert into activated cannabinoids. Basically, decarboxylation ensures that edibles are psychoactive. If we don't heat our cannabis beforehand it won't get you high.
When we smoke or vape, decarboxylation occurs automatically due to combustion when we smoke or via the heating element of the vape when we vape, but decarboxylating for edibles requires prior preparation of our cannabis.
So, to prepare our cannabis beforehand we will use our kitchen oven:
- Preheat the oven to 110°C (230°F is approximately 230°F — note: 110°C ≈ 230°F).
- Grind the cannabis into small pieces, but not into a powder. Place it on parchment paper on a baking tray and put everything in the oven for about 30 to 45 minutes.
- When the cannabis has turned a light golden color, it will be ready. Make sure to stir it a couple of times so it is evenly heated.
- Finally, let it cool so it can be handled in the preparation of our ice cream.
Once this first preparatory step is completed we can start preparing our marijuana ice cream.
SECOND STEP: INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE OUR ICE CREAM
- Pour the heavy cream into a saucepan and heat it over medium heat until it begins to simmer.
- In another saucepan, put the butter, sugar and salt over medium heat and stir as everything melts and mixes.
- Take the ground cannabis that we previously prepared and add it to the saucepan with the butter, sugar and salt, making sure to distribute it very evenly.
- Pour and whisk the warm cream into the saucepan with the butter mixture.
- Mash the banana in a separate bowl.
- When it has become a paste, add the cream mixture, the rum, the honey and any other ingredients you want to the bowl.
- Mix everything until it has a pasty consistency.
- Put the mixture in the freezer for a few hours, until it begins to have a soft consistency.
- Take the bowl out and pour the mixture into a suitable freezer container.
- Place the lid on the container and put it in the freezer until it is firm.
